China lithium-battery materials: the third cycle
Eleven listed materials companies guided to CNY 21.4–24.2 billion of H1 2026 profit, about A$4.5–5.1 billion, up 295–348%. That is a carbonate-price bounce. It is not evidence that midstream recaptured pricing power from the cell makers.

How many GWh from 10,000 tonnes of cathode?
The 1,600 t/GWh rule is a 2021 nickel-manganese-cobalt coefficient, not a physical constant. Lina’s 15 August handbook, a Chinese cathode-materials note, puts eight powders on one cell-level identity: 10,000 tonnes of NCM811 make about 7.1 GWh of cells; generation-3 LFP about 4.8; NFPP about 2.8.

SDIC’s 2026 China lithium supply–demand note
SDIC Securities, a mainland broker, forecasts 2026 China lithium-carbonate supply at 1.72 Mt and demand at 1.77 Mt. The 46,782-tonne shortfall is about 2.6% of that demand — and the same note disagrees with itself on the storage line that feeds the balance.
